When it comes to bedroom storage, nothing works as well as fitted wardrobes. Poole homeowners have been looking for bespoke solutions if our enquiry list is anything to go by - so we thought we’d explain why custom-fitted wardrobes will always beat store-bought solutions, hands down.
What Are Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes? Poole Homeowners Ask
Ok people of Poole - here it is: bespoke wardrobes or custom fitted wardrobes, as they’re sometimes called, are pieces of furniture designed specifically to suit your home and needs. Whether you are looking for lots of hanging rails or you prefer cubby holes, your fitted wardrobe is made to fit your home perfectly.
They’re often the go-to solution for those who want to maximise storage, but also want something that looks beautiful too. At Living Dimensions, we’ve designed and built a wide variety of fitted wardrobes in Poole, Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. Here’s a recently completed fitted wardrobe project we did for a customer in Poole.
What Is The Process For Fitted Wardrobes?
While the process of designing and installing bespoke wardrobes is a little more involved than just popping into Ikea and ordering some, the results are far better. So, what is the process, and how long can you expect to wait for your fitted wardrobes (Poole & Dorset customers particularly).
Initial Consultation
Before anything, we come to see you and discuss your fitted wardrobe requirements. Every customer has different needs, and we like to see how we can solve our clients' unique storage problems. As experienced wardrobe fitters, we enjoy nothing more than a challenge! We work with irregular spaces, unusual items and particular decor requests.
Drawings & Plans
Following your consultation, we will produce detailed plans that take account of your requirements. The beauty of bespoke furniture is the freedom to have it configured any way you wish. Our CAD images help you to visualise your fitted wardrobes in your space, so you make changes if needed.
Design & Installation
We try to locally source the materials we need for your project, so you can proudly show off your ‘made in Poole’ fitted wardrobes. We’ll cut and prepare your wardrobe in our workshop, keeping you updated with our progress.
When we’re ready to fit your wardrobe, we’ll prepare the area and get to work. Installation can take from just one day to a week, depending on the size, location and additional elements you have opted for.
Aren’t Store Bought Wardrobes Easier?
It really depends on what you mean by easier. If you want to walk into a shop, point to a picture and walk out with a piece of furniture, then yes - that is easier. Until you have to put it together, that is.
Like anything mass produced, off the shelf wardrobes often have defects or are made poorly. You can’t make thousands of units without (badly) cutting corners. But they do make a good temporary measure if you’re desperate for hanging space.
We’re not knocking all pre-fabricated wardrobes - you can buy some lovely pieces if you know where to look - but they cost about the same as fitted wardrobes, and if you’re investing in decent furniture, why not buy it so it’s exactly what you want?
Here’s what you might miss out on if you buy from a shop;
Not customised to your lifestyle
You might be able to add a hanging rail or drawers, but you’ll be limited to the extent you can customise your wardrobe. And one thing you won’t be able to change is the height or depth, and if you’re trying to get something to fit your space perfectly, that’s a pretty important aspect. We’ve dismantled enough wardrobes to know what lurks in the unusable spaces between the wardrobe and your wall - and trust us, it’s grim.
No brilliant adaptations & extras
One of our favourite things about fitted wardrobes is the way they can include unusual features. We’ve kitted out wardrobes with LED lights, TVs, electrical sockets - even secret compartments. There’s no end to what we can add to your fitted wardrobes to make them ideally suited to you.
Quality wood, ethically sourced
What we make our custom built wardrobes from has a direct impact on how they look, how they function and how long they last. We use sustainably sourced timber from local merchants for your fitted wardrobes. Poole has a huge wealth of suppliers that we work with to create your furniture - we are very lucky in this part of the world!
Some store-bought wardrobes are made with the cheapest wood or engineered wood which doesn’t have the durability of solid timber. Over time, laminate can peel away, screws can become loose and rails can fall off and you more than likely end up replacing your wardrobe after a few years - and you may as well have spent the same on custom wardrobes in the first place!
Furniture, exactly as you want it
Since every part of your wardrobe is made just for you, you have ultimate control over how it looks. When we designed and fitted wardrobes in a rustic, 100-year old cottage, the customer wanted pieces that blended with the aesthetic of the house. We sourced a beautiful oak that matched the doors in the house perfectly, so the fitted wardrobes looked like they’d aways been there (we could also adapt to suit the irregular walls too!)
We can design your wardrobes to compliment your decor or interior design, whether that’s sleek and contemporary, traditional, rustic or quirky. We offer a pretty much limitless range of finishes, so whatever your dream wardrobe looks like - we can make it happen.
